by Katie Whiting on Wed, Aug 5, 2015
3 occupations that are on fire and have a significant number of openings throughout WNY:
#1: Office & Administrative Support Occupations:
- # of current job openings in WNY (as of August 2015): 1,258
- # employed (as of 2012): 118,850

- Average salary for an entry level individual: $22,160

SelectOne’s Take On It:
- SelectOne has experienced an influx in office & administrative support positions – we have worked 40+ of these positions in the second quarter alone.
- A large majority of these roles are temporary positions.
- Watch out for an influx of stay-at-home moms/dads entering the marketplace once school starts back up again.

#2: Sales Occupations:
- # of current job openings in WNY (as of August 2015): 1,266
- # employed (as of 2012): 68,400

- Average salary for an entry level individual: $18,890
- Average salary for an experienced level individual: $44,640
SelectOne’s Take On It:
- Sales positions have started to percolate as the WNY economy continues to boom.
- Low base salaries and high commission plans aren’t for everyone but can be enticing for the right person. Make sure your compensation packages include measurable and distinct benchmarks for continued earnings/growth.

- # of current job openings in WNY (as of August 2015): 535

SelectOne’s Take On It:
- Large regional banks aside, WNY is hiring for numerous analyst, market research, logistics positions.
- The demand for accounting and controller level positions remain steady and for those private sector employers seeking candidates with CPAs and public accounting experience, it will be important to offer a competitive salary to incentivize candidates to explore new paths.
